Stakeholder Feedback: Zumin Village Insights

Thomas Turkal, Project Manager, along with his wife Hura Turkal, the project’s financial officer, embarked on a meaningful journey to Lae, Papua New Guinea, where they engaged in pivotal discussions and site visits. Upon arrival, the focus quickly turned to productive meetings with PNG Carbon Estate, laying groundwork for a scheduled visit to Zumin Village and outlining essential project infrastructure details.

The following day proved eventful despite logistical challenges, with a delayed vehicle pushing back departure for Zumin until midday. Nevertheless, spirits remained high as Thomas Turkal, Hura, and the PNG CE team, including Paul and Tine, finally set out. Arriving at Zumin Village in the afternoon, they were warmly received by 13 Clan Chairmans. A crucial meeting ensued, where enthusiastic support for the project was palpable. The Clan Chairmans, including the Paramount Chief, endorsed the initiative with their signatures, urging a prompt start.

Saturday brought a reflective final meeting with PNG CE Peters Team, summarizing the trip's outcomes and confirming Gold Standard’s requirements on the ground. The team’s eagerness to see the project underway was evident, reflecting the positive feedback and encouragement recorded in the grievance/feedback book.

As they returned to Port Moresby on Sunday, Thomas and Hura Turkal carried with them not only the logistical achievements of the trip but also a strong sense of community support and anticipation for the project’s future in Zumin Village. This visit solidified partnerships and set the stage for meaningful development that aligns community aspirations with sustainable growth.
