Our Story

Our journey into reforestation in the Morobe province was sparked by an invitation from the Morobe Provincial Government in May 2022. They sought our expertise in the carbon credit business and reforestation, setting the stage for a promising collaboration.

Following productive discussions and the signing of a preliminary agreement, our plans faced a pivotal moment with the election of a new governor and administration. Undeterred, we continued our efforts, attending a crucial seminar in Port Moresby later that year. Here, we met Peter Amatus from PNG Forestry University, whose team would soon become invaluable forestry consultants for our project.

In March 2023, armed with our consultants, we conducted detailed feasibility studies in the Markham and Wau Bulolo Districts. Meeting with local leaders, including Luke Simpur of the Namoant ILG, solidified our commitment to making a difference in Morobe Province. This dedication was underscored by a new agreement with Governor Wenge, reinforcing our mutual goals.

By May 2023, our focus shifted to the Namoant ILG lands, where we ceremoniously signed a Letter of Intent, laying the groundwork for future cooperation. With the hiring of PNG Carbon Estate, led by Peter, to manage our forestry operations, our vision gained momentum.

Ensuring every step aligns with ethical standards, we embarked on the Free Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) process according to the Gold Standard. Transparency and community involvement are at the core of our mission, as evidenced by extensive outreach efforts and inclusive meetings held in May 2024 under the sacred raintree.

Looking ahead, our project aims to plant 4.2 million trees across 7,000 hectares, setting a precedent for sustainable reforestation efforts in PNG. Our ambition aligns with recent findings suggesting the profound impact of global tree planting initiatives on climate change mitigation.

At GCR, we believe that every tree planted brings us closer to a sustainable future, starting with one project in Morobe Province. Join us on this transformative journey as we pave the way for a greener, more resilient tomorrow.
